My favorite Halloween candy
When I was just a wee little lad growing up in the cold northeast I used to LOVE trick or treating (except when eggs got thrown at our house!) When I think of the holiday I think of the cool autumn winds first starting to blow, carving pumpkins and putting them out the front steps for the bad kids to come by and smash them, going from house to house trick or treating with my babysitter, eating Halloween candy along the way (naughty naughty!) and of course coming home and sorting out all my candy and trying to see how long I could make it last.
Of course I had certain candy favorites! While I LOVED the mini candy bars my favorite treats were the candy corns. Do you know where candy corns came from? They were invented a long, long time ago by an American candy maker named George Renninger who wanted to make a candy that looked like the shape of a kernel of corn! So, you see – that’s why they’re colored with yellow and orange – the same colors of corn that’s harvested around the same season of Halloween!
Mmm…Back to the sorting of the Halloween candy…How do you like to bite in to your corn? Do you like to shove a whole handful into your mouth at the same time our do you like to eat yours one by one? Personally, when I was a little kid I liked to shove them into my sugar-coated mouth by the handful. But, not that I’m a big kid I like to eat them one by one, and bite off each color as I go.
